happy belated blog birthday–9 years!

Happy 2017, everyone. I know many who are glad to leave 2016 behind! It was filled with a lot of rough stuff for not only me but countless friends, too, and on a much wider scale in the USA, the world.  I personally think this turn into the new year feels somewhat different than many before. Usually, there’s more enthusiasm for the year ahead but here in the US at least there’s a plethora of weird, unstable,”off” feelings floating around post-election. More tomorrow on my commitment …

A chunk of years ago I started taking a month of blogging in the summer; then it was two months, and for the last few years it’s been three. It’s always been a good decision for my soul. This year, I need it more than ever.  Even though in general I haven’t blogged as much this past season, and my hope of signing off June 1st slipped away with things transitioning at The Refuge. So I decided to wait a little longer. I’m glad I did …

Thank you all for all the dog love. It means so much to me! I’m trying to ease out of the fog and catch up a bit and meant to post this last week. One of the fun things I sometimes get to do is talk about church and life and Faith Shift and Down We Go and all kinds of other topics I like rambling about with other folks from all over the place. Technology is amazing. I like real life first, but Skype can …

8 years old!

Every January 1st is this blog’s birthday. And this week it’s 8 years old! I am so glad that I jumped in the waters all those years ago. It has been a gift to me in more ways than I can count, mainly the risk that’s been involved in saying out loud some of the things rattling around in my head (it’s a carnival in there) and connecting with so many amazing kindred spirits over the years. It hasn’t been without its costs. The critique, the …

It’s been a while! My last post here was june 4th, and it feels like just a few weeks ago but it’s been 3 months, wild. I am glad I took a longer break this year; I needed to not be thinking in blog all of the time. And it worked. I stopped thinking about it so much that September 1st came and went without even realizing it was here. A lot has happened over the past 3 months, and I wanted to catch up a …

I’ll miss you all over the next several months, but I’m really looking forward to a summer break from blogging. A few years ago I took one month off.  For the past two years I took two months off.  This year, I’m going for three! I need it. I keep learning the value of rest and soul care, and even though it’s definitely not my first nature, I’m getting better at least attempting to practice it. The Refuge has a simpler summer rhythm, too, and I …

another blog birthday, the big 7

I always consider this blog’s birthday January 1st of every year.  I had written on the Refuge Blog a few years before here, but The Carnival in My Head officially started on January 1st 2008. How could 7 years have gone by? Seriously, I’m getting old.  It was interesting today to read my first real post here exactly 7 years ago. It was called when is the time? after watching the movie The Great Debators. My issues with gender inequality and the church were fresh wounds then, that’s for …

Sometimes I don’t blog much here, but I’ve got other posts floating around in various places. I usually always write them at totally different times but then they all hit at the same time, which is kind of weird.  This past week was one of those weeks! Here are some posts out and about that you might want to check out because they are part of other interesting things worth knowing about: You may have already seen the post here, but this past week was Mental …
