I’ve been blogging through Holy Week (Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday are up so far). I had another post I was going to share earlier today–Maundy Thursday–but I ended up having an extra busy day and by the time I got home, I had heard the news that we dropped our biggest non-nuclear bomb in US history in Afghanistan. I knew I didn’t want to just hit “publish” on what I had written. Most of it is all contained in this old post anyway–receiving.
Instead, I just wanted to say this tonight instead:
While bombs drop, keep washing feet.
Yeah, keep washing feet.
Keep giving.
Keep caring.
Keep loving.
Now, more than ever.
And let others wash your, feet, too.
Keep receiving.
Keep receiving.
Keep receiving.
Keep learning to be equal friends.
It’s hard to do. It’s much easier to give but it keeps us protected, separated from each other, above, in the comfortable positions of “to” and “for.” It’s so easy to hide behind our helping, our activism, our desire to “serve” God.
Jesus’ example in John 13 is a beautiful lesson in humility and vulnerability and what love looks like.
While bombs drop, keep washing feet.
But let others wash yours, too.
It’s vulnerable.
It’s humble.
It’s “with“.
It’s the kingdom.
While bombs drop, keep washing feet.
And let God wash yours, too.
I want the words of Jesus soak into my heart and my bones and my head and my hands and my feet tonight as we prepare for Good Friday tomorrow: “Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.”
While bombs drop, keep washing feet.
