hey all, it’s hard to believe that christmas is only a few days away. this week is a foggy week for us as a couple of the kids are fighting off the same crud i got, and we kicked off our christmas vacation by getting far-too-many shots for africa, fun fun. all 7 of us are going to kenya and uganda for a mission/adventure combo january 18 2010. i have always wanted to go to africa, and we are all really excited for this opportunity. more details coming soon!
this will be my last post before christmas, and i thought i’d share a video my friend jenny herrick and i created for our 4th week of advent at the refuge this past saturday night as part of the refuge’s christmas dinner celebration/final week of advent gathering. one thing the refuge is really good at is a crazy combination of deep & spiritual and fun & wild at the same time. our evening together included great food, games with the grownups & kids, sobriety birthdays, singing christmas carols, this video reflection, and communion together. it was topped by a lovely little surprise from my “identical twin” (aka my teammate karl) who impersonated my clothes, my words, my hand motions, the whole kit and kaboodle. it was hilarious, and i will never be able to wear my jean skirt and puffy vest without thinking twice first.
anyway, i hope you can take a few minutes and soak in this short guided meditation. our 4 weeks of advent have been built around celtic traditions. this one focused on our journey & the vigilance it requires to stay in, keep going, and let go of having all the answers. one of my hopes for the new year is to continue to be more and more aware of God in the midst of the journey–along the way–and focus less and less on the destination, since it never seems like i end up there anyway.
merry christmas, everyone! enjoy.
