stacy - oh you will be a most amazing counselor, i have absolutely no doubt your heart for marginalized & hurting kids will continue to spread love wherever you are...and of course we are so happy that it will be here!

carlos - thanks for reading; i am glad this has been stirring up some good things to consider. keep me posted on what develops!

amy - yes, i so agree "acceptance and love...are the heart of God."

jodi - oh thanks for sharing here and on facebook, too. i am glad you feel less alone...lots of love & hope to you from afar...

mike - yeah, she's one of the best fighters i know. what a privilege to see up-close-and-personal and a reminder to all of us!

tracy - i forgot that that was rich's job. oh yeah, what an amazing gift he must be to those students & what an amazing gift they must be to him!

paul - thanks for commenting & for sharing a piece of your family's journey. it is always so wonderful to hear stories of hope....

jeff - yeah, you could have written this one, too. thanks for who you are and how you love. it is amazing to see. and it is indeed a privilege to get to do this journey together...

tom - oh i am sorry i keep making you cry! but it sounds like the good kind, hahaha. thanks so much for sharing & like i mentioned to paul above, stories of hope are so beautiful to hear and see. the more we share them, the better. i love that there's been restoration & healing & that your daughter is following her heart to love kids in such a special way. what a gift! ps: no need to ever apologize for your comments. this is a place to just share whatever's on your mind. no need to edit!

You did it again, you made me cry!

Wow! I know what it is like to fight for a child who needs educational accommodation and my parts did if for as a Child I was diagnosed with A.D.D and so was my son. He has proven a real fighter though shortly before he turns 19 this July he will graduate from a Technical College and begin the career he has dreamed of his whole life as he loves computers, building them, etc. I'm so proud.

My ex-wife my children's mom on the other hand, has a autistic boy he's 7-years-old. My soon to be 20yrs. daughter that I mentioned before is moving into an apartment soon next weekend to be exact, has decided to work with Autistic Children. She has a job now where she goes to school with a second grader who has Autism and has changed her major in college to make a career of working with children of Autism.

Just in case you are wondering God worked a miracle and my ex-wife, her, husband and I have fantastic relationship. I dearly love them. Their mom (Shellie) and I are completely reconciled. Matter of fact this touched me so, because of my concern for Shellie, Joe (her husband), and Devin (my children's brother), and because of how proud I am of my Son and Daughter.

Again sorry for such a long comment.

Kathy,
Thanks again for turning the light toward the margins and shining on some wonderful, beautiful people.

Christina,
You are an inspiration to me and I love your little guy, and your whole fam. It is an honor to be your friend in this journey.

Our oldest has Asperger's which is on the Autism spectrum. He's now in his last year of high school and looking forward to college. But while the academics are great, there are still some concerns with regard to his socialization.

For us, besides prayer, or perhaps through prayer, a key was the discovery of a vitamin supplement called DMG which is a B-compound vitamin increasing levels which are already naturally occurring within the body, and sold without prescription at health food stores. I am personally wary of people who offer quick fix solutions, we were never big on the idea of alternative medicine, and I would be the last to throw out false hopes, but for us, the behavioral changes took place literally overnight when we started this.

We went from over 90 days of school suspensions in grade two to none in grade three. Again, this may not work for everyone, and physicians will remind you that vitamin supplements don't have the history of clinical testing that goes into pharmaceuticals, but it's a reminder of how, with God's help, anything is possible. I believe we should keep on asking, keep on seeking, keep on knocking. If we've prayed a hundred times without result, that doesn't prevent us prayer #101.

We may not get to a place where everything is perfect -- truthfully, every family has things they are dealing with -- but we can still ask God for everything from little reminders of his grace, to a taste of the truly miraculous.

Christina, your courage is beautiful to behold. My husband, Rich, is a special educator, 7th-12th grades, and he often works with autistic children, so I understand a little bit what you face on a daily basis. Autistic children hold a very special place in Rich's heart and I know he'll be deeply touched by your story. Thanks for sharing so honestly. You are an amazing woman.

Thanks for this. I can relate to Christina and Jonah. I have a son on the autism spectrum and have experienced many of these same things throughout life and the church. It is comforting to know that there are people out there who want to see the beauty of my precious boy and want to give him a change to share his gifts. Thank you Christina and Jonah for sharing your story.

Kathy,
Thank you for posting this interview. I so love the fact that you are reaching out to all kinds of people, to learn, write down and post their stories.

Christina, thank you for sharing your story. Your son, Jonah, sounds like such a good kid. I'm so glad you shared, openly and honestly what it is like to be his mother, and what his world is like. Indeed, marginalizing anyone with special needs, mental illnesses, addictions, struggles....that is not of the heart of God.

Acceptance and love...is.

May Papa, Son and Holy Spirit continue to pour out His love in your family.

Blessings,
~Amy :)
